Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia and it’s another city carved from limestone. Since this was my first time in any Italian city, I was mildly disappointed at how nothing seemed to be taken care of. These are my people and I expected more. Everything seemed to be a work in progress with nothing finished. LOTS of graffiti which really surprised us. In many ways, it was the opposite of Malta. There was not one sign in English so we never knew what we were looking at. Cagliari is a very hilly city but we decided to forego the bus and walk it. It was a cool day and we’re pretty good at exploring on our own.
Visited St Cecilia Cathedral of Cagliari which was stunning in a different way than St John’s in Malta. Much less gold and many more carvings. Reached the Old Town area with lots of outside cafes and stopped at a tiny bakery (the display window drew us in) for a pizza sandwich and cookies. Walked some more. Found an outside café for coffee and across was an Arab stand that had the colorful belts I’ve been looking for; bought two. Continued walking in the direction of the shuttle. We were told by others that there were plenty of better cities in Italy. Will look forward to visiting one of them someday.
