French Polynesia is a French Collectivity or region controlled in part by the country of France. It is a collection of archipelagos or island chains. One chain is the Marquesas Islands. The largest island of this chain is Nuku Hiva, we visited the largest city of Taiohae on Nuka Hiva. Another archipelago is the Society Islands of which we visited two islands, Tahiti and Bora Bora. Tahiti Island’s capital is Papeete and Bora Bora Island’s main city of Viatape, both cities we toured. See map below:
