Phuket (pronounced using a “p” sound and silent “h”) is an island that used to be a major stop on trade routes between India and China. This is our third and last stop in Thailand. This was a short excursion day with a local ferry which transported us on Patong Beach. It could have been any beach in Southern California (except we’re in Thailand) with white sand and beach umbrellas, blue water, sailboats, skidoos, parasails, and humid salt air. We hopped on a bus which took us to Promthep Cape to see views of the Andaman Sea which was beautiful. We also saw the “Four Face Buddha” surrounded by more than 50 elephants of varying sizes and draped with garlands of flowers; interesting. There was actually a drink placed in front of the Buddha that had a straw in it.
We proceeded to Chalong; Phuket’s most sacred Temple. I’m so done with temples that I headed to the shopping area while my partner explored the three story high Temple. The main temple was very well maintained. As is frequently the case, other complete and ornate temples were at the same location, including one for cremation. Bad luck to visit this one, hence only photographed.
We probably should have stayed where the ferry dropped us – on the beach!
